- A little history… Maximianus was Roman emperor from 285 to 305. An excellent general, he was called by his old comrade-in-arms Diocletian to assist him as his Caesar from 285 to 286, with responsibility for Italy, Africa, Spain, Gaul and Britain. Constantius I was a Roman emperor from 305 to 306 and was the father of Constantine the Great, the first Christian emperor of Rome.
